Our client is looking for an experienced A-Player to fill the role of COO, overseeing province-wide operations of their 3PL distribution division and providing operations leadership throughout the 4 business units that make up the company. The company is dynamic, exciting and fast-paced with a growing team and big goals. Entrepreneurial attitude, superior people management skills, innovative thinking & problem solving, and the desire to go above and beyond to ensure a positive customer experience are key personality traits. The COO role will be the most important hire the company ever makes! It is an executive position, reporting to and supported by the CEO. The CEO is a sales focused individual who owns revenue growth accountability and leads the company vision and culture.
This role will offer an excellent remuneration package; vesting equity opportunity, management autonomy and act as the direct report for our Operations, HR and Information Technology leadership roles.
The opportunity requires a like-minded professional to bring their expertise and leadership to drive company success alongside the CEO. As Chief Operating Officer (COO) you will oversee the long-term vision and growth strategies of the business, our brand promise to our partners, and will be responsible for the performance of all department functions – Operations, HR and Information Technology.
Key responsibilities include:
  •  Develop and implement systems and processes in line with the strategic objectives of the company. With the ultimate goal of producing a first-in-class, customer focused distribution and logistics business that is aligned with the unique needs of the craft beverage industry
  • Implementing and supervising the operational budget
  • Preparing, managing and communicating the operational strategy in support of the overarching company strategy
  • Providing key insight, coaching and mentoring for direct reports to optimize performance
  • Reviewing, developing and measuring key metrics for the operation
  • Ensure direct reports' KPIs are being met, and are aligned with business area’s KPI's
  • Cultivating company culture, employee engagement, productivity and passion
  • Ensuring continuous delivery of our brand promise through management of service level expectations with our partner breweries, wineries and cideries and monitoring performance
  • Develop annual, quarterly and monthly goals for operations and customer experience improvements and ensure these goals are reported on regularly
  • Coordinate with the distribution General Manager, warehouse managers and administrative teams to ensure integrated processes are smooth and communication is strong
  • Drive process and project improvements to optimize productivity and efficiency
  • Participate in expansion and key decision-making strategies (investments, acquisitions, new ventures, etc.)
  • Oversee and project manage implementation and integration of warehouse management system, customer experience systems, and improvement of existing processes
  • Serve as a mentor and role model to senior management, representing the culture and values of the company
  • P/L accountability for business operations
  • Implement and refine metrics for performance and develop transparent engagement to share with the entire company regularly
Successful candidates will have:
  • Minimum of 5 years senior operations or supply chain management experience
  • Bachelors in business, supply chain/operations management, or engineering 
  • MBA is an asset
  • High level of technical expertise in managing data systems
  • A track record of delivering high levels for performance, quality and customer experience
  • Experience leading process improvement initiatives (Six Sigma / lean process knowledge an asset)            
    Excellent people, communication, and project management skills, with a professional, outgoing and friendly personality
  • Genuine interest in learning about the wine and craft beer industry and contributing to its growth and success in BC
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully develop others into higher levels of leadership in an organization
  • Change management experience
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills are required, including the ability to motivate and coordinate a variety of departments in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with 3rd party logistics business processes and/or food & beverage distribution industry is a major asset
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, presentation and relationship building abilities
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Strategic, resourceful, & creative individual who is a proven hands-on leader that thrives in a team environment
  • Strong analytical, numerical and reasoning abilities
  • A positive outlook on life
  • Hi-Five abilities are a must
